Body Contouring Q & A
What is body contouring?
Body contouring is a cosmetic treatment that improves the aesthetic appeal of your body by eliminating stubborn deposits of fat in specific areas, such as your hips, stomach, or arms. Because body contouring isn’t a surgical treatment, it isn’t as risky or expensive as other alternatives, such as liposuction. However, the results of body contouring may not be as dramatic as surgery.
How does body contouring work?
Body contouring works by eliminating fat deposits that don’t go away with less-invasive methods, such as diet and exercise. In most cases, body contouring destroys these fat cells completely, so they can’t return.
Different body contouring systems use different methods to destroy fat cells. For example, some systems use laser energy to heat fat cells and kill them. Once the cells are dead, your body’s lymphatic system processes them out of your body.
Who is a good candidate for body contouring?
Body contouring may be a good option for you if you want to make subtle changes to your body’s shape without a more invasive surgical procedure. If you want to make dramatic changes, you may need to opt for liposuction or another type of surgery.
If you’re hoping to lose large amounts of weight, body contouring may not be the best approach. In general, it’s best to lose weight first and then use body contouring to eliminate smaller deposits of stubborn fat.
How long does treatment take?
Body contouring sessions are usually complete in as little as 30 minutes. Because the procedure is non-invasive, you’ll be able to return to your normal activities as soon as you’ve been released from the office.
When do results appear?
The results of body contouring aren’t immediately obvious. In fact, you may not see the full results of your procedure for several weeks. Some patients need more than one treatment to achieve their desired result. You may also need additional treatments if you gain weight in the future.
Is body contouring painful?
Body contouring doesn’t require any incisions. Although you may feel some mild sensations during treatment, such as warmth or tingling, you’re unlikely to experience any significant pain.
